Be an Office Volunteer

The following information is a broad overview of the areas of volunteer service (other than mediation) available to CMS volunteers.

General Office Support: CMS welcomes general office support volunteers. With minimal training, volunteers can perform valuable functions such as answering phones and taking messages, making copies, and/or communicating with other volunteers, etc.. General office support volunteers are not required to attend a 30-hour Basic Mediation Training.

Staff Support: CMS works with students and other community members to provide internship opportunities. Some of the areas where intern positions may be available are: Staff Assistant (i.e. Volunteer Manager's Assistant), Program Coordinator, Fundraising Assistant or Materials Development Assistant. Other areas of particular interest to interns may be developed in partnership with CMS staff.

Other: For experienced mediator volunteers, other opportunities are available such as: newsletter production, representation of volunteers on the Board of Directors, or other specialized functions.

Board of Directors: Work closely with staff and other volunteer Board members to provide guidance and financial stability for CMS. Attend regularly scheduled meetings and participate in a broad variety of activities, committees and responsibilities. Must be committed to community mediation and collaborative decision making.

Fundraising Assistant: Work with the Board Fundraising Committee to assist in developing and implementing a fundraising plan. Solicit ideas from volunteers, help coordinate events, mailings, etc.

Staff Assistant: Provide organizational structure and support for any of the staff members. Perform general office duties as requested by staff. Particularly suited to a student intern interested in volunteer, program or case management.

Data Entry/Computer: Enter new case data, update/close cases, update mailing lists, develop useful systems such as Cardfile, etc.
